What is Kizomba? It’s the “Party”!
If you’re looking for a dance that feels less like a performance and more like a moving, sensual conversation, Kizomba is your jam!
Hailing from Angola in the late 1970s and early 80s, Kizomba literally translates to “party” or “celebration” in the Kimbundu language. It emerged as a beautiful blend of traditional Angolan rhythms, most notably Semba, mixed with the silky, romantic sound of Zouk from the French Caribbean. Think of it as Semba slowing down, lighting some candles, and falling deeply in love with a powerful bassline.
Why You’ll Love the Vibe
The music it’s often slow, deeply romantic, and hypnotic. It’s what you put on when you want to feel the rhythm in your soul. The heavy bass and electronic percussion gently guide you across the floor.
Kizomba is danced in a wonderfully close embrace. it’s about the connection. Be totally present with your partner and the music.
The movement is super smooth, grounded, and almost looks like a controlled, intimate walk. For the ladies, there’s a huge emphasis on the Ginga (a beautiful, subtle, rolling hip movement) that lets you interpret the music’s heartbeat.
