Salsa Dance Marin

Frequently Asked Questions:

I don’t have a dance partner… can I still come to class?

No problem! At Salsa Dance Marin, we use a partner rotation system so everyone always has someone to dance with. This dynamic approach helps you become a more versatile dancer and connect with new people in a fun, supportive environment.

I am a beginner … What is the best class for me?

Beginner Salsa 1. This class is designed for absolute beginners or those who’ve had a lesson or two and want a refresher. We’ll cover the fundamental salsa steps and basic movements, giving you a solid foundation to build upon.

What kind of clothes or shoes do you recommend?

To make the most of your salsa class, we recommend wearing comfortable, stretchy clothing. For footwear, opt for leather, suede, or hard plastic soles that won’t mark the dance floor. We advise against rubber-soled shoes, as they tend to stick to the floor. This can make turns difficult and put unnecessary strain on your knees and ankles.

If I buy a group of lessons, will I have to attend classes every week, consecutively?

To get the most out of your lessons and really solidify what you’re learning, we highly recommend attending classes regularly. However, we also understand life gets busy, so you’re welcome to come to classes whenever it’s most convenient for you!

How many classes should I attend to be ready to dance socially?

Everyone learns at their own pace, and we’ve got some tips to help you master salsa even faster.

To really accelerate your progress, we recommend more than just attending class. Try to find time to dance socially outside of lessons; it’s a fantastic way to practice and internalize what you’ve learned.

For the most rapid advancement and truly desired results, consider combining private lessons with your group classes. In a private setting, your instructor can give you personalized attention, pinpointing areas where you need to focus and providing the specific guidance to get you looking great on the dance floor quickly.

If I buy a package of group lessons, can I share it with my partner?

You can bring your dance partner to class with you using your existing dance package.

We want to look good for our first wedding dance… how many lessons should we take?

For your wedding dance, we suggest at least six lessons to get you comfortable on the floor. If you’re hoping for a custom-choreographed routine, we recommend a minimum of twelve lessons.
