Join us for an exciting afternoon of Samba de Gafieira, the elegant and playful Brazilian partner dance direct from Rio de Janeiro! Whether you’re taking your very first steps or looking to refine your technique, we have a session tailored for you.
Samba de Gafieira — Intro/Beginner, August 29 at 2:00 PM –3:00 PM
Discover Samba de Gafieira, the elegant and playful Brazilian partner dance from Rio de Janeiro! This introductory class is designed for beginners and dancers who want to strengthen their foundations. We’ll explore basic steps, rhythm and musicality, partner connection, leading and following, and essential Gafieira movements.
No previous Gafieira experience necessary. Come ready to learn, connect, and have fun!
Intermediate Samba de Gafieira, August 29 at 3:00 PM –4:00 PM
Take your Gafieira dancing to the next level! This intermediate class builds on the fundamentals with more complex combinations, transitions, musicality, partner connection, technique, and styling. We’ll focus on creating greater fluidity, confidence, and expression while developing the dynamic movement and character that make Samba de Gafieira so unique.
Recommended for dancers who are comfortable with basic Gafieira vocabulary and partner-dance fundamentals.
Open Practice | 4:00–4:30 PM
Stay after class for 30 minutes of guided/open practice! This is a chance to review material from class, dance with different partners, ask questions, and build confidence through repetition in a relaxed and supportive environment
Instructor: Cristina Dias Ramos
Dance professional for 35 years, choreographer, and actress.
Teaches dance workshops in Brazil and internationally, including Europe, the United States, and Argentina.
Taught Samba and Tango workshops in Prague, Czech Republic, in February and March 2020, in addition to performing in dance shows and teaching private and group classes.
Participated in several television programs and soap operas on Rede Globo and SBT, and has performed on television and in five theatrical productions, including musicals.
Has taught Ballroom Dance and Tango at APPAI, Estilo de Dança Vila Isabel, Studio Dançar Méier, Clube dos Democráticos, EISB, Centro de Dança Vila Isabel, as well as at national and international congresses such as SambamanÃacos, Gafieira Brasil, Gafieira New York, and the Brazilian Tango Congress, among others.
Taught Samba de Gafieira workshops in New York, USA, in April 2023.
Completed a U.S. tour in August 2023, teaching Samba de Gafieira workshops in Michigan, Washington, D.C., and New York, as well as performing in dance shows.
Completed a U.S. tour in 2024, including Michigan, Miami, and Los Angeles.
